W.B. Yeats, Irish Ferries’ latest flagship, will use the heat from its internal combustion engines for the heating on board. Thanks to the installation of four Konutherm waste boilers of type AKV 0,6 / 40, the ship does not lose unnecessary heat which results in considerable fuel and energy savings.
Special valve construction
The four waste boilers have a total power of 3200 kW (4x 800 kW) and are equipped with a customized Konutherm control system with valve construction. This construction consists of electro-pneumatic actuators that can be controlled from 0 to 100% and are resistant to extremely high temperatures, low resistances and a low center or gravity. The valve construction prevents the cracking and possible overheating of the thermal oil in the boilers.
DNVGL marine quality mark
In addition to the four waste boilers, a Konutherm thermal oil boiler type KOH 2.5 / 50 with a capacity of 3560 kW is installed as backup. This boiler can provide the entire vessel with heat at the moment that the motors are not in use. The total heating system is implemented under the ‘Safer – smarter – greener’ marine quality mark of DNVGL. We wish the W.B. Yeats, her crew and passengers have many safe and warm nautical miles!
